Play Store edition and stopping capture
This document applies to the Camlink Play Store edition. After you start streaming while the app is visible, camera and microphone capture can continue when you press Home, open another app or turn off the screen. Removing Camlink from Recents stops capture, disconnects the PC and removes the streaming notification. No stream is restarted automatically; reopen the app and tap Start. Your saved PC pairing is retained. Stop is also available in the app and streaming notification. Android may terminate capture earlier. The separately distributed website edition can continue after removal from Recents until you stop it or Android ends it.
About this policy
This policy covers the Camlink Android and Windows companion apps and Camlink download website. Effective 19 October 2026. Camlink is the app/project name. Privacy and support contact: support@camora.com.
Live camera and microphone
When you enable an input and tap Start, Camlink captures that camera or microphone and sends live media directly to your paired Windows PC over your local network. Camera access also enables QR scanning. You can disable each input, mute the microphone or stop streaming. Camlink does not provide cloud upload or media recording. The paired PC can expose the stream to applications you choose, which may record or upload it under their own policies.
Background capture and permissions
Start streaming while the Android app is visible. A foreground service and ongoing notification keep the enabled camera and microphone running when you open another app or turn off the screen. Stop capture in Camlink or from the notification. Notification permission makes that control visible; a partial wake lock keeps capture active with the screen off. Android camera and microphone indicators may remain visible while those inputs are active. Capture does not silently restart after reboot or process death.
Local pairing data and security
The apps save the paired PC address, certificate fingerprint and random pairing/reconnection credentials to reconnect. Windows also retains its local TLS identity encrypted with Windows data protection; Android keeps pairing in app-private storage excluded from backup. QR pairing authenticates the PC certificate. Signaling uses TLS and WebRTC encrypts media between your phone and PC. No public STUN/TURN server, Camlink account or media server is configured. Protect your devices and pairing QR; anyone controlling a paired device may access its stream.
Collection, analytics and third parties
This release has no advertising SDK, analytics service, payment SDK, account requirement or automatic crash-report upload. Camlink does not receive your live media or pairing credentials on a developer-operated server. WebRTC, OkHttp, QR decoding and other bundled components provide local app functionality. OBS Studio and VB-CABLE are optional, separately installed products with their own terms and privacy practices. Your calling, browser or recording application controls any further transmission or recording you enable.
Retention and deletion
Live media buffers are transient and discarded as streaming advances or stops; Camlink does not intentionally save recordings. Pairing remains locally until you choose Forget PC or New pairing, clear app storage, or remove the relevant app profile. Uninstalling Android removes its private app data. Windows may keep the profile for reinstalls; quit Camlink and remove %APPDATA%\Camora (the retained legacy profile folder) to erase its saved pairing. There is no Camlink server account to delete. If you send a support email, we use that correspondence and any diagnostics you include to investigate your request. Ask support@camora.com to delete support correspondence when it is no longer needed; we may retain information where legally required.
Website, downloads and support messages
The static download website does not set analytics cookies or require sign-in. Its hosting provider processes request information such as IP address to deliver pages and downloads. Email providers process messages you choose to send to support. Startup error details are copied only when you tap Copy error details; review them before sharing. Do not send pairing secrets, passwords, private signing keys or recordings containing other people without permission.
Your choices and changes
Grant or revoke permissions in Android settings, disable individual inputs, stop streaming, forget the pairing, or uninstall. Contact support@camora.com for privacy questions or requests about correspondence you have sent. This policy may change when app behavior changes; a revised effective date will appear in the apps and on the website.
