Windows installation
The installer is unsigned and requires administrator approval to register the camera component. Quit and uninstall previous test builds before installing. It configures private-network firewall rules.
Installing or switching Android editions
Allow APK installation from your browser or file manager. Both editions share one app ID and cannot be installed side by side. Switching from 0.6.5-play to the older 0.6.3 background edition requires uninstalling first, which clears pairing and settings. Builds from before the 0.6.1 signing-key change also require uninstalling.

Is Camlink free?
Yes. All currently implemented features are free. There are no subscriptions, paid quality locks or account requirements.
How does it connect to my PC?
Install both companions on Android and Windows 11, connect to the same private Wi-Fi, then scan the QR code on your PC. Pairing is authenticated and local communication is encrypted. USB is not included in this release.
Will it appear as a Windows camera?
The desktop installer includes a native Windows 11 camera source. While Camlink is running, select Camlink Windows Virtual Camera in a compatible application. Windows and browser camera permissions must allow access. Preview alone does not confirm device registration; actual installation and calling-app compatibility still need testing.
Does the microphone need another app?
System microphone input currently needs a separate VB-CABLE installation. Route phone audio to CABLE Input in Camlink, then choose CABLE Output in your calling app. Test audibility and lip-sync before a call. VB-CABLE has its own licence terms.
Can I turn off my phone screen?
Yes, start streaming while Camlink is visible first. Its foreground service continues the session when the screen is off or another app is open. Stop from the app or streaming notification. Background behavior depends on Android battery restrictions and still needs physical-phone testing.
Which devices and quality settings are supported?
The initial targets are Android 8+ and Windows 11 x64. Start at 720p / 30 fps. Phone capture also offers 480p/15, 1080p/30 and 1080p/60 targets where supported; native Windows camera output is currently fixed at 720p/30. Compatibility varies by hardware and application.
